The monitoring of trace metals in human urine plays an important role in research. Traditionally, urine analysis has been accomplished by graphite furnace atomic absorption (GFAA). However, when large numbers of samples are analyzed for multiple elements, GFAA becomes very cumbersome and restrictive, since it can only determine one element at a time. Additionally, the detection capability of ICP-MS for many elements is far superior to GFAA.1 The benefits of ICP-MS are well-recognized and include:
